AAU Science & Innovation Hub is an open and inviting building that houses laboratories, digital workshops, facilities for business collaboration, an incubator environment, office spaces, an auditorium, and a canteen at Aalborg University’s campus in Aalborg East.

The building is organized with the largest and most public functions located on the ground floor. As you move through the building, new synergies are revealed, allowing users to shift their surroundings and refocus. The main functions are connected both vertically and horizontally, supporting the need to transition between spaces during the creative process.

The materials are raw, creating a framework where new ideas can flourish. Exposed concrete gives the building an industrial feel, softened by the use of perforated panels. These panels also play a key role in ensuring good acoustics in the large spaces, which must accommodate both lively conversations and deep concentration.

The panels, which cover a significant portion of the building’s walls, are made from peeled pine, offering a beautiful veneer surface where the grain and texture are clearly visible. Over time, the panels will develop a golden patina, and the wood grain will become more pronounced and distinctive. The panels are mounted using AluFix – a metal sleeve inserted into a random hole. When a screw is driven through the AluFix, it expands and secures the panel, resulting in a concealed mounting solution.
