The former wholesale market in Valby is being transformed into a vibrant new green district. Since 1958, when it relocated from Israels Plads, Grønttorvet served as the capital’s main trading hub for fruit, vegetables, and flowers. But as Copenhagen grew—with more residents, traffic, and construction—the market once again had to move out of the city center.

Today, Grønttorvet is evolving from a trading space into a modern urban neighborhood. The area features greenhouses, natural surroundings, and a strong focus on community. Great care has been taken to preserve the green spirit of the original market, with architectural details that remind residents and visitors of its historical roots.

Even the names within the district reflect its past. One example is Magnolia Hus, which houses student apartments and office spaces. The interior design is inspired by Nordic minimalism, featuring light wood tones, warm colors, and lush greenery. The building offers an optimal office environment with a pleasant indoor climate, where oak-veneered stripe panels adorn both ceilings and walls throughout the shared facilities—including the café and canteen, lounge, reception, and meeting and conference rooms.
