Architecture in Harmony with Nature

Beautifully situated in the landscape with sweeping views of nature and the castle ruins, the Hammershus Visitor Centre is located at Hammerknuden, the northernmost point of Bornholm. From here, visitors can enjoy a stunning view over the Baltic Sea and the remarkably well-preserved Hammershus Castle Ruins—one of the region’s most significant attractions. Discreetly embedded into the rocky cliffside, the visitor centre blends seamlessly with its surroundings. Whether standing on the rooftop or walking along the cliff path into the building, guests are treated to a panoramic view of the ruins.

Inside, the architecture merges with the landscape in a truly magical way. The choice of materials is exclusive yet understated, ensuring that neither the building nor its interior overshadows the natural surroundings or the historic ruins. The use of wood and concrete creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it a place where visitors naturally want to linger. Large, elegant windows blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors, allowing the experience of nature even on a rainy day.

The ceilings are fitted with oak-veneered slats on one side. These slats contribute significantly to the excellent acoustics in spaces where many people gather. Mounted in a rail system, they also provide space to conceal technical installations above.
