Expansion of Hornslet School

A Modern Learning Environment Focused on Acoustics, Flexibility, and Well-being. In the autumn of 2025, Hornslet School opened its new upper school building, setting the standard for future learning environments. The architects from Kjaer & Richter have created a space where functionality and aesthetics go hand in hand – with a special focus on indoor climate and acoustic comfort.

Materials
Inside, warm materials and a Nordic color palette create a calm and inviting atmosphere. Wooden surfaces and acoustic-regulating elements are integrated into ceilings and walls, providing both visual warmth and optimal sound comfort.

The building is designed with flexible spaces, and large windows ensure natural light and visual connection to outdoor areas. Open common areas and smaller group rooms offer space for both collaboration and concentration.

With many students gathered under one roof, acoustics are a key factor. Acoustic panels and sound-absorbing materials reduce noise levels and create a pleasant sound environment in both classrooms and shared spaces. This ensures peace for learning and well-being.
