Hvinningdal Church
Hvinningdal Church stands sculpturally atop a hill, beautifully integrated into the surrounding landscape. The church is built as a single-storey, L-shaped structure and welcomes visitors through a foyer that opens into a warm and inviting space designed to encourage togetherness and conversation.
In one wing, the building’s volume gradually steps up, culminating in a bell tower. The church provides a versatile setting for a rich and diverse church life, accommodating religious ceremonies, events, activities, and educational programs. It is designed to embrace both large gatherings and more intimate assemblies.
Materials have been carefully selected to create a Nordic expression with light, golden tones. In the ceilings—both in the sanctuary and the foyer—cross-laminated veneer slats with oak veneer on one side have been installed. These slats contribute to excellent acoustics in spaces where a calming atmosphere is essential. Aesthetically, they harmonize beautifully with the other materials while discreetly concealing technical installations and other visual distractions.
The same type of slats is used extensively on the walls, along with full wall panels in oak veneer, which lend the interior an exclusive and harmonious appearance.
