The Largest Expansion in School History

International School of Billund (ISB) has opened the doors to the most significant expansion in its history. With the new buildings, the school now offers 20,000 m² of space and capacity for three classes at each grade level – a major upgrade to the learning environment.
Inside, the design focuses on light, openness, and materials that combine functionality with aesthetics. Striped panels in peeled pine adorn the walls in a random pattern, creating a dynamic and lively expression. Behind the slats, a grey backing fabric ensures a calm and cohesive look. The light pine with a white-pigmented finish highlights the natural texture of the wood, giving a warm Nordic feel that harmonizes beautifully with the abundant daylight from above and the sides – bringing nature closer indoors.

Large sections of the ceilings feature LVL spruce slats, which also frame the stage area. These are mounted with precision to create a sense of lightness and transparency, giving the stage an open and airy character.
The result is a school where architecture, materials, and light come together to create an inspiring environment for learning, creativity, and community.
