Movement, Play and Wellbeing in a New Sports Hall
The children at Julemærkehjemmet in Skælskør now have a new multi-purpose hall, offering open spaces and facilities that invite movement, play, and physical activity. In 2021, the home received new indoor exercise facilities. The existing hall was reduced in size and transformed into a fitness room, while an adjacent wing was expanded with a new double-height sports hall. This new space supports a much wider range of physical activities. One end of the hall features a mezzanine level equipped with a full set of spinning bikes, connected to the main floor by a spiral staircase in the corner.
The materials used are rustic and encourage active use. To ensure excellent acoustics in the hall, perforated panels in peeled pine have been installed from door height all the way to the ridge. Below door height, the walls are clad with panels showcasing the wild and expressive grain of peeled pine veneer, creating a striking contrast with the rest of the space and materials. The use of wood also contributes to a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
