Juhl-Sørensen A/S – A Modern Home for Piano Culture
Since 1895, Juhl-Sørensen A/S has been selling pianos and grand pianos in Aarhus. Today, the company operates from a newly constructed building that beautifully brings together all its functions in a modern musical environment. Upon entering the showroom in Brabrand, visitors are greeted by a wide selection of digital pianos. The new, spacious warehouse is also filled with these contemporary instruments. Yet, under the same roof, one also finds classic pianos and grand pianos, including a dedicated Steinway & Sons department, for which Juhl-Sørensen A/S is the official distributor.
The building houses a concert hall, piano workshop, administrative offices, and sound and video suites. These new facilities create a space where musicians and music lovers can explore the piano and gather around the instrument. Acoustics have therefore played a central role in the design of every room.
Guests enter a double-height space with tall windows, offering a dramatic experience—much like the music itself. The architectural concept is based on a raw concrete structure, contrasted by wall surfaces clad in larch veneer, which adds warmth to the space and significantly enhances the acoustics.
The central “core” of the building is clad in randomly patterned stripe panels, emphasizing the room’s height—especially where the staircase ascends along the inner facade. At Juhl-Sørensen A/S, acoustic design has been approached through a combination of solutions, where all surfaces and furnishings contribute. The result is a dynamic and vibrant interior that supports the company’s identity as a welcoming and lively meeting place.
